‘The Last Jedi’ has a secret ‘Game of Thrones’ connection
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi offers one of the best nerd crossovers of 2017. The movie’s newest location of Canto Bight happens to be the exact same city as Game of Thrones‘ Kings Landing: Dubrovnik, Croatia.
In a video about the new worlds of The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson casually mentions that Dubrovnik was the perfect place to shoot Canto Bight, as if the city’s name hasn’t become synonymous with Thrones in nerd culture. In unaltered footage, Dubrovnik looks exactly like the Westerosi capitol; with spaceships by nightfall, it becomes the effervescent casino of The Last Jedi.
Congratulations, Dubrovnik — you’ve won nerd bingo! Now good luck dealing with those tourists.
