Los Angeles City Hall became a crime scene Wednesday after a man leaped from the building’s 27th-floor observation deck, authorities said.
Officers with the LAPD’s Central Division rushed to City Hall shortly after 4 p.m. following reports of an apparent suicide, an LAPD spokesperson told The California Post.
According to sources, the man—believed to be in his 20s—obtained a visitor’s badge, cleared security, made his way to the observation deck on the 27th floor, and then jumped.
A photo circulating on social media showed a white tent located just outside the building’s entrance.
Police tape closed off the front steps.
The man’s name has not yet been released.
While windows in most public areas of City Hall do not open, windows on the upper floors—where staffers work—do open.
